Jacob Long, a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee, brings a keen eye to his award-winning nature and wildlife digital photography. After earning a bachelor's degree from Western Carolina University, Long transformed his study of biology into a self-taught, artistic appreciation for the natural world. He holds a 1st Place ribbon in Photography and the Jennie Ross Cobb Photography Award from the 2024 Trail of Tears Art Show and 3rd Place awards in the Native South Art Exhibition and Wildlife in North Carolina Magazine’s Mammals Category in which he is also published. Long is inspired to communicate the beauty of the natural world to people that may not have the opportunity to see it every day. He has a particular talent for capturing scenes that others may, at first, regard as mundane or commonplace and framing them in such a style that their true artistry shines through. His work pays homage to the ancestral lands of the Cherokee and the vast array of flora and fauna that comprise the Cherokee world. Long currently resides in Sylva, NC.
