I once read that life is hard, and you have to pick your hard. For me, it’s hard dragging myself out of bed before sunrise, standing in the rain for hours with soggy gear and a dripping lens. But it’s also hard lying in a warm, dry bed later, wondering what shots I might have missed. That morning, I chose the first hard — and it rewarded me with some of my favorite images of this bull elk in the middle of a downpour. These tiny creatures play a big role in natural pest control, yet plastic waste has now made its way into the insects they eat. (They're also well worth standing out in the rain at 11pm for.)
